Frequently asked questions

When will my order arrive?

Your box is picked and packed at the farm, then travels on a 24-hour tracked service — so it's delivered the day after it leaves us. We dispatch Monday to Thursday only, so your box never sits in a depot over a weekend. Order by Wednesday for weekend cooking.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses, excluding the Scottish Highlands and Islands — tracked, on a 24-hour service. For the Highlands, Islands and other non-mainland addresses, the delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay.

The cool pack arrived warm — is my box OK?

Yes. The gel pack protects the mushrooms in transit, and it's completely normal for it to arrive cool or even at room temperature — it has done its job on the journey. Pop the mushrooms in the fridge and they're good to go.

My Lion's Mane has yellow patches — is that normal?

Completely normal. Lion's Mane is naturally cream-coloured rather than bright white, and small yellow patches or brown marks appear where clusters rubbed together as they grew. It's also naturally softer than a button mushroom. Trim any darker spots and cook as usual.

What's in the Classic Mix?

Roughly 1kg across five-plus varieties — pink, yellow and grey oysters, wild chestnut and Lion's Mane among them. The exact mix follows the week's harvest.

How many portions will I get?

The Classic Mix makes around 8–15 portions depending on how you cook. A Lion's Mane box makes roughly 4–10 portions, depending on the size you choose.

How long will the mushrooms keep?

About 7 days in the fridge. Remove all packaging and store them in an open-top container so they can breathe. Use the delicate oysters early; the firmer varieties keep longest.

What if I don't know how to cook unusual mushrooms?

If you can use a frying pan you're ready: thick slices, hot pan, butter and garlic. Every product page has a variety guide and cooking answers, and our recipes blog has simple starters.

What happens if something arrives damaged?

Send us a photo within 24 hours of delivery and we'll make it right — usually sorted within 24 hours.

How do subscriptions work?

Every box can be bought once; regular delivery saves 20% with free UK mainland shipping and you can pause, swap or cancel anytime. Single boxes never auto-renew.

How do I pause or cancel a subscription?

Email us and we'll pause, skip or cancel it straight away — no forms, no fuss.

Buying as a gift?

Double-check the delivery address at checkout — Apple Pay and other express checkouts can quietly default to your own address. Need it to arrive for a specific date? Email us before placing your order and we can tag it for priority dispatch.

Can I customise my box?

Leave us a note at checkout or email us and we'll do our best to accommodate preferences.

Can I order by phone?

We don't take phone orders — email info@themushroombarn.com and we'll reply, usually within 24 hours.

Do you supply restaurants or trade?

We've supplied establishments up and down the country for over 30 years. Email us for trade enquiries.
